PML-N rejects FIA as investigator in Asghar Khan Case

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Friday froze off the government's idea of appointing Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as the primary probing authority in Asghar Khan Case.

Addressing a press conference here at Punjab House he demanded of the government to form an independent, impartial, and transparent commission to probe into the case in the wake of Supreme Court’s landmark verdict, which he said adding, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had welcomed openheartedly.

Going forward he raised the question as to why PML-N was being singled out in the case.

“Islami Jamhori Ittehad (IJI) was an alliance of eight different political parties but why all the guns are pointed at PML-N”, said he.

Refusing to cooperate with FIA, Nisar said the controversy-smitten agency's poor performance in the last four and a half years was written on the wall for everyone to see.

“We will only become a part of a nonpartisan investigative body”, said he.

"A trial will follow the investigation, whether someone's guilty or not guilty will be proven only then, and before that I would advise that people should refrain from passing irresponsible remarks", said he.

“FIA takes orders from Interior Ministry. Thus the chances of its staying neutral are very slim”, Chaudhry Nisar added.

Commenting on the Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf's statement, Nisar said before raising finger at others Mr. PM should first pay close attention to what Supreme Court's verdict on Rental Power Plants case had said about him.

"The Prime Minister, before finding faults with others, should look into his own first", the Opposition leader said.
