PM’s appearance before SC: PPP chalks out strategy |
PPP core committee chalked out strategy on appearance of the prime minister before the apex court.
Law Minister Farooq H Naek and other legal experts briefed the meeting about legal aspects of NRO implementation case for which the apex court has summoned the Prime Minister on August 27. According to a handout issued from the Presidency, President Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf co-chaired a meeting of some ministers and senior leaders of PPP at the presidency Friday night.
Briefing about the meeting, spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said the meeting discussed current political situation, Law and order situation, floods and the energy situation in the country. The spokesperson said Prime Minister Raja Ashraf and Minister for water and Power Ahmed Mukhtar briefed the meeting on energy situation and the progress on various measures being taken to overcome power shortage.
Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik briefed the meeting about law and order situation in the country and various measures that were taken to ensure security on Eid. Rana Mohammad Farooq Saeed Khan, Minister for Climatic Change, briefed the meeting about the flood situation in the country.
The spokesperson said the meeting also reviewed reports about the grievances of Hindus and the incidents of discrimination against minorities. He said the meeting resolved that minorities will not be allowed to be discriminated against and would be provided full protection of law. The spokesperson said the President while expressing deep concern and sorrow over recent loss of lives and property in the northern and other parts of the country called for gearing up floods preparations and also called for closely monitoring the situation.
Before the PPP Core Committee meeting, President Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf also held one-on-one meeting to discuss the current situation in the country and NRO implementation case in the Supreme Court.
